pastoral sociology is the sociology of  pastoral life in the  pastoral  terrain. - Sanderson  Rural sociology is the study of  mortal relationship in  pastoral  terrain. - Bertrand  The sociology of  pastoral life is the study of  pastoral population,  pastoral social association and the social processes operative in  pastoral society. - F Stant Chapin  Supporting this view T. L. Nature of Rural Sociology

There's a contestation whether the sociology can be regarded as  wisdom with its own subject matter. Science may be defined as body of  organized knowledge or synthesized body of knowledge. In the collection of data for any knowledge, when we apply a scientific  system it's called as a  wisdom. Science goes with the  system and not with the subject matter. Scientific  system consists of methodical  observation, bracket and interpretation of data. It's believed that  pastoral sociology employs the scientific  system.  The nature of  pastoral sociology as a  wisdom can determine on the base of following data
1. Use of Scientific Method It's  invariant fact that  pastoral sociology employs the scientific  system. nearly all the  styles of scientific study viz.  compliances, interview schedule, questionnaire  system, case study, statistical  styles etc. are employed in the study of  pastoral sociology. In the absence of scientific approach the  vill problems can not be studied. On  similar studies we formulate generalized principles and laws on which we  read  unborn trends.
2. Factual Study It studies the social events, social relationship and process in a factual manner. It also studies and analyzes the data and the underpinning general principles and  propositions.
3. Discovery of Beget and Effect Rural sociology formulates its  propositions and laws on the base of cause and effect relationship.
4. Universal Laws The laws formulated by  pastoral sociology are universal in nature. Because under normal or  analogous condition they prove to be correct and produce the same result.
5. prognostications Since the laws formulated by  pastoral sociology by  pastoral sociology are grounded on cause and effect relationship. It's possible to  prognosticate the result.  On the base of conditions enumerated  over, it's said that  pastoral sociology is by nature a  wisdom. still, there are some factors which limits the scientific sociology is by nature a scientific nature of the subject.
